A key visual for the previously announced anime film Sword Art Online: Progressive -Scherzo of the Deep Night has been released. The film will be released in the fall of 2022. The animation is handled by Studio A-1 Pictures (86 -Eighty Six-, Sword Art Online Series). You can see the key visual below:

The series’ main cast will be Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Kirito) and Haruka Tomatsu (Asuna). Sword Art Online: Progressive -Scherzo of the Deep Night- will adapt volume 4 of the Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series, which will focus on the fifth floor of Aincrad and the guild known as Laughing Coffin.
Sword Art Online: Progressive -Scherzo of the Deep Night- is the sequel to the film Sword Art Online: Progressive -Aria of a Starless Night-, which was released in Japan on October 30, 2021. The first film in the Progressive series earned over 349 million yen (US$3.04 million) at the box office during its opening weekend. The anime film was also released in North America on December 3, 2021, and debuted at number ten in theatres on its first weekend, grossing more than US$1.05 million. Ayako Kono (Gate) directed the film, which was animated by A-1 Pictures.
The film is based on the Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series by Reki Kawahara. In October 2012, ASCII Media Works began serialising it. The novel is still in progress, and there are currently 8 volumes available.
