Makoto Shinkai is one of the legendary anime director his most known work are “Your Name” and “Weathering With You“. It’s has been 3 since his last movie ( Weathering with You (2019) ), and Now wait is finally coming to an end.
A new key visual from Makoto Shinkai’s next feature film Suzume no Tojimari ( Suzume’s Locking-Up) has been published. The press statement announced that Suzume’s Locking-Up will be released in Japanese theatres on November 11th, and that the first promotional video will be released on Saturday, April 10th, at 8:00 p.m. (7:00 a.m. EDT). Toho’s official YouTube channel will host the trailer.
The official Twitter account of the film also shared the first still from the movie, where we can Suzume from behind, she is walking on a bridge facing a town which appears to be destroyed due to some disaster.

Makoto Shinkai himself will be producing, writing and directing Suzume no Tojimari. Shinkai has also brought back Masayoshi Tanaka as character designer (also worked on Your Name film), and Kenichi Tsuchiya will be the animation director (also worked on Your Name film). Takumi Tanji, Shinkai’s former collaborator, also returns from Your Name and Kotonoha no Niwato for the role of artistic director. The animation will be produced at CoMix Wave Films, with production by STORY Inc. and TOHO is responsible for distributing the film.
Makoto Shinkai describes the story of Suzume no Tojimari as a modern adventure story, an action film, and a road movie. The story follows Suzume, a 17-year-old girl from a quiet Kyūshū town who meets a young man looking for a door. They find a door within ruins in the mountain, and Suzume opens it. Soon, more doors begin to open around Japan, bringing disasters from the other side. The film depicts Suzume’s liberation and growth, as she closes the doors that are causing disaster.
