Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie Not Licensed for Indian Theatrical Release

On Saturday, PVR Pictures confirmed to ANN that it has not yet acquired the film rights to the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film for India.

The company did not respond to ANN’s request for comment, but it did state that it intends to bring more anime film releases to Indian theatres.

Several Indian social media influencers have claimed that PVR Pictures announced on its social media accounts that it had licenced the film, but then removed the announcement. ANN was unable to confirm these claims.

Since its December 24 release, the film has sold 9.07 million tickets for a total of 12.7 billion yen (approximately US$107 million), making it the 21st highest-grossing film in Japan of all time, surpassing Disney’s Aladdin and Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises.

According to the Mainichi Shimbun paper’s Mantan Web, the film is the highest-earning film in Japan for the calendar year 2021, having surpassed Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time.

The film is based on Gege Akutami’s manga prequel storey Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Tokyo Toritsu Jujutsu Kt Senmon Gakk (Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School), with MAPPA animating and TOHO distributing. Yuta Okkotsu was voiced by Megumi Ogata, and Rika Orimoto was voiced by Kana Hanazawa.
