According to Box Office Mojo, the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film earned a total of US$27,723,448, ranking #5 in its second weekend in the United States. The picture grossed $4,579,727 throughout the weekend, including $1,301,503 on Friday, $1,883,932 on Saturday, and $1,390,000 on Sunday.
The picture was shown in 2,418 theatres during the weekend, with a per-theater average of $1,894.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 earned 1,072,252,950 yen (about $9.37 million) in Japan on its first day, a Friday in December last year. In Japan, the picture grossed 2,694,128,150 yen (about $23.5 million) in its first three days.
Since its release in Japan on December 24, the film has sold 9.28 million tickets for a total of nearly 13 billion yen (about US$108 million), making it the 19th highest-grossing film in Japanese history.
According to the Mainichi Shimbun paper’s Mantan Web, the film is the highest-earning film in Japan for the calendar year 2021, surpassing Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time.
The film is based on Gege Akutami’s manga prequel narrative Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Tokyo Toritsu Jujutsu Kt Senmon Gakk (Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School), with MAPPA animating and TOHO distributing. Yuta Okkotsu was portrayed by Megumi Ogata, and Rika Orimoto was voiced by Kana Hanazawa.
