Earlier today, Attack on Titan cast members chose their favourite, most impactful scenes from the Final Season Part 2 at AnimeJapan 2022. Attack on Titan had a one-hour-long stage that also served as the event’s finale this year. A few key pieces of information were also provided:
- The voice recording sessions for the anime are still ongoing
- Eren will appear in the upcoming episode (87)
Yuki Kaji (Eren), Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa), Marina Inoue (Armin), Hiro Shimono (Connie), Yoshimasa Hosoya (Reiner), and Ayane Sakura (Gabi) attended the event and shared their experiences with the series, while Chiaki Matsuzawa served as a presenter.
Ayane Sakura broke the ice by mentioning that this is the first time she has met Hiro Shimono in person. Falco’s love confession to Gabi was one of the best scenes in recent episodes for her. Gabi’s realisation that there are no devils on Paradis, and that they are all humans and the same, led to this scene. Falco, who is attempting to console her, admits to his involvement in Eren’s attack on Liberio. It is their concern for others that keeps these characters human.
Jean attacking Reiner after his confession about Marco’s death had the most impact on Yoshimasa Hosoya. This scene emphasised Reiner’s humanity because humans are not strong, and Reiner is ultimately one of them. Hosoya joked that there had been more punches thrown than he remembered.
Shimono Hiro chose the scene in Raguko village where Connie tries to feed Falco to the titan. Marina Inoue agrees with him and adds that the scene that follows (in which Armin and Connie discuss Connie’s mother) is also very good. Marina Inoue believes Armin’s most moving scene is him finally grasping the gravity of Bertholdt’s words. “Someone has to get their hands dirty” and do what needs to be done to achieve objectives.
Yui Ishikawa considers Mikasa’s determination to fight and defeat Eren to be one of the season’s highlights. Mikasa is the only one who can stop Eren, and she didn’t realise she had it in her until the scene in which Mikasa and Hange discuss options.
Yuki Kaji, Eren’s voice actor, was the last to present a favourite scene. He chose Eren’s speech to all of Ymir’s subjects. “Wipe every last one of them,” he said, emphasising how the phrase’s meaning had shifted dramatically between the first and second seasons. Kaji also discussed how hard he worked to say this line, claiming that he “destroyed” his throat to make the guttural sound used in this scene.
The Attack on Titan cast members concluded the panel by discussing their characters’ portrayals and questioning the definition of entertainment. Although Attack on Titan is in that genre, the themes and topics it addresses are quite dark. Ayane Sakura reflected on the thin line separating enemies and allies, stating that small things give her hope. The storey makes Yui Ishikawa consider what she wants to protect the most. Yuki Kaji stated that every character has a life and a storey, but Eren’s is unique. That is what he considers when voicing him.
Yuki Kaji tweeted a group photo to commemorate the event:
